Me Marie-Elaine Tremblay is a partner at Schirm & Tremblay Avocats and an accredited family mediator.

Me Tremblay has a law degree from Université de Montréal and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 2007. Prior to her legal studies, Tremblay completed studies in political science and communications at Université de Montréal. Tremblay has practised family law exclusively since 2012. Prior to 2012, Tremblay practised for nearly six years at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where she acquired solid experience in business law, specializing in commercial real estate law.

Me Tremblay appears before all courts in Quebec and her practice covers all aspects of family law, including divorce, disputes between common-law spouses, spousal support, custody and access rights, child support, unjust enrichment, compensatory allowance, division of family patrimony, liquidation of the matrimonial regime, international kidnapping, private international law, drafting of cohabitation agreements for common-law spouses and pre-marriage counselling. Me Tremblay regularly acts in highly contested and complex cases involving significant financial stakes, particularly when assets are hidden by the opposing party.

Me Tremblay regularly appears before the Quebec Superior Court and the Quebec Court of Appeal, and she and her partner Me Sylvie Schirm also argued before the Supreme Court of Canada in Association de médiation familiale du Québec v. Bisaillon and Bouvier, to protect the family mediation process privacy.

Given her years of experience as a business lawyer with a major national law firm, Tremblay possess expertise that is rare among family law practitioners and not only useful but also highly advantageous in divorce or separation proceedings, particularly when complex financial structures have been set up (family businesses, trusts, management companies, etc.).

As a family law lawyer, Me Tremblay has received recognition from her peers and was one of three finalists for the title of Lawyer of the Year in Family Law 2013, awarded by the Young Bar of Montreal as part of its Leaders of Tomorrow event.

Me Tremblay writes and speaks at conferences on family law, particularly with respect to landmark case law and the duties and obligations of a person facing bankruptcy in the context of a divorce or separation.
Since the summer of 2021, Me Tremblay has been Chair of the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the Quebec Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, the largest association of lawyers in Canada.

Me Tremblay also hosts Les Justiciers, a reality show for fans of courtroom dramas broadcast on Noovo every Friday at 8 p.m., where she and two of her colleagues settle Small Claims Court disputes.

Me Tremblay also sits on several boards, including that of Académie Ste-Thérèse, a private primary and secondary school, where she serves as Board Chair. She also sat on the Board of Directors of the Association de médiation familiale du Québec for six years, on the organizing committee for Les Printemps du MAC (a benefit evening organized for the benefit of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal), and is a founding member of the Cercle de la relève de la Fondation de l’Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants (the Cercle brings together young Montreal professionals as volunteers to organize events throughout the year for the benefit of the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation).
